Members of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, Entity and Brčko Assemblies meet at the EU Delegation/EUSR premises in Sarajevo on 19th March 2012 and discussed the re-launch of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration effort.

The meeting was the first in a series of events which will be organised by the EU as part of the “Parliament for Europe” initiative, which brings parliamentarians from this country together with EU officials and parliamentarians from EU Member States to study ways of taking the BiH accession process forward.

Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen stated: “Majority of BiH citizens want to see this country in the EU. This is where they want to see their children. Your hand “for” or “against” can mean progress or blockade on the EU path and you have a chance to prove your commitment to the EU future of your constituency on a monthly if not even on a weekly basis.” He added:” Only you, the elected authorities, can secure the progress so much desired by your constituencies. We can only assist and help when your genuine commitment is there.”

Head of Unit for Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Directorate General for Enlargement of the European Commission, Ms. Paola Pampaloni, addressed participants as well.

Discussion focused on the priorities which need to be met in order to secure fully entering into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and the credible BiH application for the membership in the EU.
