Event of the Month

From their base in Dubrava near Tuzla, the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina deployed on October 15 their combat infantry platoon to Afghanistan. The unit consists of 45 soldiers, in average aged 35, among them one woman. This is the first combat unit that BiH has ever sent to an international military mission. The unit has joined Danish battle group in a high-risk province of Helmand in southern Afghanistan, where its members will guard and secure two bases of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

All these soldiers have joined the mission voluntarily. They will spend six months in Afghanistan, after which, in early spring next year, they will be replaced by the second rotation. Most of them possess combat experience from the war in BiH, and some of them have participated in an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) mission in Iraq.
